How Much to Feed...

In general, when feeding a raw diet you want to feed your pet an amount of food equal to between 1 and 3 percent of her body weight on a daily basis. So a 50 pound dog would be fed between ½ pound and 1 ½ pounds of raw food per day. If your dog is a larger breed and/or overweight and/or less active, you would feed an amount at the lower end of the range. Conversely, if your pet is underweight and/or a small breed and or very active, you would feed an amount at the upper end of the range.

Here’s a great tool to help you calculate your pet’s food needs.

All feeding guides are approximations. It is essential that you weigh your pet weekly or monthly when starting a new pet food to monitor her weight and adjust the diet accordingly. Most veterinarians are happy to have their patients visit for a weight check at no charge during slow hours.
